Description / Expertise: After Gallieme Coustou - Large Pair of Victorian Brass Marly Horses 21"w x 8"d x 23"d. Marly Horses (Fame and Mercury) - Guillaume Coustou the Elder (1677-1746) - Carrara marble, 1739-1745. Commissioned in 1739 by Louis XIV for the park of his new Palace Chateau du Marly, the two sculptures were transferred in 1794 after the Revolution to the entrance to the Champs-Élysées off the Place de la Concorde in Paris and replaced by cement copies in 1985 and are now in the Court Marly, the Louvre. 3.4m (11 feet) tall. The Royal Collection has a smaller bronze pair given to George IV in 1813 – they are in the Green Drawing Room at Windsor Castle
